iPad as a transmedia agent…

Back in January I posted, “2010: the year of transmedia” and with the release of the iPad, I’m posturing that we are going to see an explosion of transmedia elements transforming the way we interact with print/digital/video media. For a taste as to what I’m talking about I’m going to reference the current Outside Magazine (iPad edition)… which has turned the table in my mind as to how I want to read a interact with a magazine article.

In “You Wish You Were Here” by Rob Story, four elements were present: great writing, breathtaking photography, teaser video, and link to share on social media. In a regular magazine, two of the four would be present. To me, the addition of the video and the social elements make the story of the trip to Antartica to record some 1st descents more robust… without taking away from Rob’s 1st person narrative, nor detracting from Greg Von Doersten’s photography.

on boundaries…

I think it is safe to say that with the rise of the smartphone and especially with the introduction of the iPhone 3-years ago and the iPad this week, we are fully immersed in the digital age. As many (me, for one) are drooling at the mouth, at the endless possibilities portable connectivity can bring… there are many more, I presume, that aren’t there yet. Whether because of economic, philosophic, or whatever else kind of reason.

So. This post is going to be directed to those that have already fallen down the rabbit hole and are grasping for some sort of sense of what direction is up, specifically, as it relates to interaction with portable digital devices…

collaboration is essential…

Friday morning I had the opportunity to join multiple bloggers/creatives/marketers/technologists at #CIB or Central Iowa Bloggers, held very informally at Panera Bread. This standing meeting, every first Friday of the month, is literally a standing affair, as I did not sit down for the entire 1.5 hours I was there. It was a pleasant surprise to find that many people genuinely interested in networking with strangers and collaborating on multiple projects with other creatives, all while holding a coffee in hand.
